Why We’re Here (And Why You’ll Love It)
We’re not just another directory. We’re a movement — championing local economies, small businesses, and family-run stalls that bring colour, community, and character to Australia’s weekends.
When you browse MLMD, you’re not scrolling a generic list. You’re exploring a living, breathing network of real people with real stories — bakers, artists, food truckers, buskers, co-ops, makers, dreamers.
This is for:
- Event lovers looking for what’s on nearby
- Stallholders needing exposure and support
- Organisers who want to grow their reach
- Shoppers who want to spend with purpose
Why We’re Different
🛍️ One place for all things market — from farmers markets to food trucks, school fetes to pop-ups, we bring them all under one digital roof.
🤝 We make connections happen — between stallholders and organisers, buyers and sellers, local businesses and loyal customers.
🚀 We help locals grow — whether it’s visibility, foot traffic, or finding your next favorite food truck, we’re here to uplift everyone in the ecosystem.
🧭 We’re community-built — we listen to your ideas (yes, really), support collaborations, and constantly evolve the platform based on real feedback.
Our History
It all started with markets, and a whole lot of heart.
Chantel has had markets in her blood since childhood, growing up tagging along with her parents as they travelled across South East Queensland selling at local stalls. That early exposure to the colourful buzz of community markets lit a lifelong passion that never left her side.
In her early 20s, Chantel turned that love into leadership, launching the Mulgowie Farmers Market. But her journey was only just beginning.
After welcoming her daughter, Chantel made a bold pivot—from food processing into full-time market organising. She went on to create the Walloan Markets in 2018, then expanded that venture into My Local Market in 2021. Just a few months later, in October 2021, she took things even further—adding the Plainland Country Markets to the family and officially forming My Local Market Directory.
Then came 2022.
Still seeing so many markets, stallholders and small businesses struggling post-COVID, Chantel decided to do something about it. She started sharing weekly market roundups for The 2 Hour Circle + Beyond Facebook group, and the feedback was instant: Australia needed a one-stop spot to find and share local markets.
So she built one.
First came the Facebook page. Then, within weeks, came messages from Tassie to WA asking to join the directory. That was the sign she needed to roll out the service across the country—and My Local Market Directory was born.
From one woman with a vision, to a national platform supporting market communities from coast to coast, our history is rooted in connection, support, and making sure no market is ever left in the shadows.
Our Future
We’ve come a long way from backyard markets and Facebook posts—but this is just the beginning.
At My Local Market Directory, we’re building more than a calendar of events. We’re creating a national network that supports the lifeblood of communities. Markets, makers, and everyday Australians who believe in buying local and showing up in person.
What’s on the horizon
🧭 Expanding the Map
We’ve already gone from Queensland to Tassie and WA—but we’re not stopping there. Our goal is to make it effortless for anyone in Australia and beyond to find and connect with their local markets, no matter how remote or regional.
📱 Smarter Tech, Simpler Discoveries
We’re working behind the scenes on a more intuitive website and mobile experience. One that lets you browse markets by vibe, not just location, think “eco-friendly”, “kid-friendly”, or “foodie heaven.” You’ll be able to plan your weekend with a tap.
🤝 Deeper Support for Stallholders & Organisers
Soon, we’ll be rolling out new resources to help stallholders brand themselves, grow a following, and get booked solid. Whether it’s a first-timer or a seasoned market pro, we’re here to make showing up easier and more rewarding.
🎤 Featuring Local Legends
Our community is packed with passionate people. We’ll be spotlighting more of them—makers, growers, entertainers, and organisers—so their stories don’t just get told… they get celebrated.
🌱 Leading the Push for Local
We’re not just reacting to a trend—we’re leading a movement. One that sees markets as more than events: as community hubs, micro-economies, and tourism magnets that deserve to thrive.
WE’re growing this together
Because the future of markets in Australia should be local, visible, and thriving.
If you’re part of that future, whether you run a stall, organise an event, or simply love a good weekend wander. we’re glad you’re here.
And we can’t wait to keep building what’s next… with you.
